What is the UCI Big Ideas Challenge?
In February 2018, UCI launched the Big Ideas Challenge to collect the biggest, boldest and most audacious ideas from faculty, staff and students with the goal of sharing the best ideas with potential donors who want to make a difference at UCI and beyond. We called for ideas that were multidisciplinary, ambitious and far-reaching so that, given the proper resources, they could have a truly transformational impact. Over 260 individuals participated in this campuswide initiative. The proposals ranged from amplifying entrepreneurial opportunities for students to bridging Eastern and Western minds to increasing community programs that help school children improve their reading abilities and more.
In summer 2018, after several rounds of internal review, two separate proposals, both centering on the same concept – the integration of artificial intelligence in delivering next-level healthcare – were chosen as the winning Big Ideas. Once combined, this concept will be included as a fundraising priority in UCI’s next comprehensive fundraising campaign. The primary objective of the campaign will be to expand our capacity to carry out our mission of cutting-edge research, teaching and public service. With support from generous donors, and ideas from our brilliant scholarly community, we aspire to meet the goals of UCI’s strategic plan, positively impact the campus and society, leverage multidisciplinary strengths, change lives, and become a leader in helping to solve the world’s grand challenges.
